AUGUST 8, 2020

In the summer of 2020, I lived in Los Angeles, which is where I met Angie.

On a hot day in August, Angie and I hopped into her car to peg a minimum of two photo sessions.

There were a few spots Angie had in mind to shoot, the first being a trail whose name I can’t recall. After getting lost for what seemed like half-an-hour (thanks Siri), we finally found a spot with a mountainous backdrop that reminded me of home.

FYI, I’m not a fan of heat, so photographing Angie in full sun was challenging for me. Regardless, we made it work.

Following that photo session, we drove to the next location on Angie’s agenda. However, when we arrived in the area, there were signs that prohibited trespassing.

Obviously, I opted out of trespassing, because that’s not an act I was willing to risk my life for in Los Angeles.

Angie was disappointed that we couldn’t shoot in this locale, and I felt bad. Even so, I privately hoped an alternative location would reveal itself on our drive home. And, it did.

Within a few minutes of getting back on the road, we spotted a beautiful field of nothingness and pulled over to check it out. I scanned the area for trespassing signs and there were none. Angie was ecstatic, as was I. Mission accomplished.

In that instance, I was reminded that sometimes, disappointments are opportunities in disguise…

Fortitude & Gratitude,

Y.

ANGIE.
